# Information ## Overview Information is used to record and distribute important updates to your team. It is the default type of item in the Information register, the most general and flexible to use, and most commonly used for general messages and information sharing. Information records are used to share updates and details you’ve received that may be helpful to your team. Examples of Information may include: * Bureau of Meteorology weather warnings and updates * Reports from the field (for example "Tree over Road") * Road blocks, Relief centre locations * Map annotations and features of interest * Announcements and updates To configure an Information item, you must add or edit an Information item via the Information register and select the *Information* [Type](#type).

Unlock the Briefing or Handover settings by setting the Information's Type under General
Note that this is the default for new Information items.

This is used to identify the information in lists. Use the **Details,** a [rich text](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/concepts-and-fundamentals/on-a-computer/using-the-datagrid/editing-items#rich-text-fields) field, to convey the information in further detail. Optionally, add one or more attachments using the **Attachments** [file upload](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/concepts-and-fundamentals/on-a-computer/using-the-datagrid/editing-items#attaching-files) field. Make sure to Save your item once you've finished to effect your changes.
