# Decision

Decisions are a [Type](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/modules/operations/logs/..#type) of Log you can use to record textual information typically associated with a decision that has been made. It functions like a digital version of a log book or diary.&#x20;

Decisions have both a *Action taken* and a *Reason*.

For example if you need to record situations such as:

* **Decision:** Resolved to add additional people to liaison role to relieve officers. \
  **Reason:** Liaison officers are overworked and exhausted
* **Decision:** Not to open the evacuation centre at Springfield and to redirect evacuees to Downtown. **Reason:** Insufficient numbers to support the operation of the centre.

Note that Decisions are intended to be shared with the whole team and while they can be edited, the original log is retained in the audit trail.

You'll need to set the Log [Type](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/modules/operations/logs/..#type) to Decision in order to use this type.

## Settings <a href="#settings" id="settings"></a>

#### Status

This setting is used to progress the workflow of Decisions.

Statuses are indicated visually and colour coded on the datagrid which allows them to be filtered.\
Decisions have the following Statuses, in order of which they can be set:

#### Decision / Action taken

Use this field to describe the decision or action taken in [rich text format](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/concepts-and-fundamentals/on-a-computer/using-the-datagrid/editing-items#rich-text-fields).&#x20;

This field is required to be filled in and the Log cannot be saved without it.

#### Reason for Decision

Use this to describe the reason in [rich text format](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/concepts-and-fundamentals/on-a-computer/using-the-datagrid/editing-items#rich-text-fields). This may include a detailed explanation of any background information or circumstances that led to the decision.&#x20;

This field is required to be filled in and the Log cannot be saved without it.

#### Attachments

The Attachments field supports adding as many files as necessary to the decision.  These are uploaded using the [Add File button](https://docs.cw.crisisworks.com/concepts-and-fundamentals/on-a-computer/using-the-datagrid/editing-items#attaching-files).
