Navigating the system

An overview of the navigation including the Sites, Modules and Registers.

The system main navigation is organised around Sites, Modules, Registers and Events. ​Your login determines which of these you can access.​ Before you can begin to use these you will need to join and go on duty to an Event.

The screen is divided into three sections to make navigation easier:

  • Menu (black bar) which includes the main menus for Sites, Modules, Help, Events and Users

  • Navigation (blue bar) assists you to navigate within a Register and includes a Search tool, View modes and New Item button

  • Registers menu (grey on the left) which includes an accordion register menu

  • Content pane (white on the right) where you'll find any information for the Register or module that you're working on

Useful terms for navigation

  • Modules - A group of registers and functions organised by theme, for example Operations or Recovery. Each contains a set of registers Contacts or Requests. Your role determines modules you can access and work with.

  • Help - You can access help via the question mark icon which will takes you to useful help resources and links, including this user guide.

  • Sites - A Site is an instance of the system, for example, each organisation might have its own site. You may be able to access more than one sites based on your user privileges.

The Welcome screen appears when you first log in. It shows all the Crisisworks sites you have access to.

Site Selection

Users can be granted access to multiple sites, however you can only work in one Site at a time.

Sites are colour coded, green indicates your Primary site, other colours may indicate Sites used for testing or training. To choose a Site, refer to the description of the site and use the button with the site name to select it.

Once in the system you can switch between Sites using the Sites menu.

Once in the system you'll find a number of menus that will help you navigate.

The menu bar has the following menus:

  • Sites - allows you to switch between the sites you have access to.

  • Modules - this is the main system navigation and contains areas for performing key tasks such as generating Reports or managing Operations. Modules also contain collections of registers for managing items, such as Contacts or Requests. Your role determines which modules you can access and work with.

  • Help - accessed via the help icon , this takes you to useful help resources, including this user guide.

  • Events - in the events menu join one or more events and select an event to work on. Users with system administration privileges can create new events and manage existing ones.

  • User - your user account and personal preferences are managed here including access to System Administration functions if you have authorisation.

The main navigation menus

Sites Menu

Use the menu in the top left corner to switch between sites you have access. Switch between Sites at any time using the down arrow symbol.

Modules Menu

Modules group related Registers together, for example those used to manage Recovery or Operations.​

The Module menu (or Main menu) is used to navigate between modules.

Your Positions, Roles and Events determine which modules you have access to.

When working in a Module, it will be highlighted in blue and the location bar below lets you know which Module and Register you are currently working in.

When using a smaller screen or window, the system's navigation will adapt. You will need to use the hamburger icon (three horizontal stripes) to open the modules menu instead.

Built-in Modules

There are two standard modules that will appear in all event views, they are:

  • Dashboard - provides an overview of the system

  • Reports - allows you to run reports and extract data

Purpose-built Modules

Refer to the Modules section for more information and see your installation for modules in your organisation's system.

Some of the more commonly used modules include:

  • Operations - Registers for emergency management, which include Requests, Information, Logs, Contacts, Resources, Request Tasks and Work Summaries

  • Recovery - Registers for managing impacted people, property and infrastructure, which include Cases, Persons, Assessments, Relief Registration, Needs & Tasks, Private Assets, Infrastructure, Livestock, Environmental Health and Agriculture.

  • Communication - Registers for managing emails and text messaging

  • Library - Repository for documents and geospatial information restricted to certain groups, or Workspaces.

Events Menu

The Events menu allows you to join and switch between events.

The Primary Event determines where new items will be added to.

You can find it second from the top right in the menu bar.

Your current selected event will be displayed on the top main menu bar. If no event is selected, this display 'All Events'.

Use the down arrow symbol to access the events menu and switch between events.

User Menu

The User menu is labelled with your name at the top right corner of the screen, and is used to:

  • manage your User Account settings

  • Go On and Off Duty and Sign Out

  • access System Administration for authorised users

  • set User Preferences

  • view Background Processes and Diagnostics

Registers Menu

Registers are organised into modules, such as Operations, Recovery, Inspections, Communications and Library. Use the module menu to view and select Registers within them. Registers are also listed on the left side of the navigation and feature an expandable accordion menu. Use the accordion menu to expand and collapse the register and to access the Search, Filter Groups and Filter submenus.

The Register menu can be found on the left of the screen. When using a smaller screen or window, the registers menu is hidden. You will need to use the Filters menu at the top of the screen to open it.
