Working Offline
This page explains how to use the Offline functions in the mobile app.
Overview
You can still access and use some features even without an Internet connection using Offline mode. Offline mode currently only works in the mobile app.
Offline mode is handy when working in areas with limited or no data connectivity. Examples include remote or outback areas, or when moving through black spots such as on transport through tunnels or urban canyons. These can impact connectivity reliability and cause the signal to drop out. In these scenarios you can enable offline support, switch the system to offline mode, perform key tasks with register items and synchronise them when you return to the office. This is particularly useful for Inspections and Post Impact assessments where you're capturing evidence from the field. Be sure to plan your offline activities to make sure you have access to the right data at the right times.
When offline you can still:
Access items and assets downloaded to the device
Add most types of items
Attach photos and multimedia to items
Note that you cannot sign back in while in offline mode. You'll need to go back online first.
To make assets and items available offline first add them to the Offline Store.
To use offline mode, you must first make sure that offline support is enabled for your device. It will automatically switch when no connection is detected on the device. You can also manually force the device into offline mode.
Enabling or Disabling Offline Support
Offline support is enabled by default.
Most of the time you'll want this enabled.
In some cases you may wish to turn this off, for example:
if you work in areas where there is a very reliable data connection
reception is patchy and you don't want to keep switching between offline and online modes
prefer to work fully online without synchronisation
You can turn it on or off through User Preferences under Settings > User Preferences > Offline.

Offline Mode
When in offline mode, a no wifi symbol will appear at the top of the screen.

Switchint to offline mode happens automatically when the device's signal is lost or manually if you set it yourself using forced offline mode.
When in Offline mode, only assets and items in the Offline Store are available to your device.
Offline Store
The Offline Store makes your items and assets available to view and manage in offline mode. These items will be synchronised when returning to online mode.
For instance if you are visiting a property in an area with no connectivity, add it to the Offline Store and it will be available to you when you're there.
Managing Offline Assets
To add assets to the Offline Store, your administrator will need to import them into the system.
Managing Offline Items
Each register has an Offline counter section with synchronisation totals. You can tap these to view all the items that are available offline or pending synchronisation.

To add items or remove them from the Offline Store, visit the relevant register and select the items from the datagrid using the Add to offline store option from the bulk actions menu.

Offline Management
The Offline Management area shows the current offline status including assets and synchronisation status.
To access it, use the Settings menu.
If you’ve added Assets or Items to the Offline Store before, this section will indicate the total number downloaded to your device in the last synchronisation with a green tick. If they're being synced you'll also receive a message with an orange exclamation icon.
From here you can Sync Items, View Items in the Offline Store or manually switch between online and offline.
Sync
The Sync Items button downloads the latest data.
You can choose which items to sync using the down arrow, either:
Assets
Note that you will only be able to sync items in offline mode

Forced Offline Mode
To Switch to Offline mode, from the Offline section in the main screen use the Go Offline button.
To go back to online mode, use the Go online buttton.
